Economic Downturn
October 15, 2008, 21:55
The incessant talk about the economic downturn does not seem to have affected public sentiment here in Singapore so far. Public transport remains packed with office workers during peak hours and people seem to be going on with their lives. The only difference now is that people have cut down on their spending. The lavish and ostentatious parties that used to be thrown at whim have disappeared. Major clubs have closed down and even once packed posh restaurants are not lacking in seats.
Was looking at the classifieds just now and realised that property prices have plunged significantly. Most of the properties on sale probably belong to anxious speculators who have no money to pay for the properties which they bought and want to dispose off!
