Counting our blessings

I was assigned to lead the prayer reflection in Church yesterday. Inspired by the words of the Old Testament prophet Haggai, I spoke about the need to shake off our apathy and self-obsession and recall that we are all called to make a difference in the lives of others. I also emphasised that we are all called to fulfill our destiny. Along the way, we will face distractions from people/society who insist that certain yardsticks are the hallmarks of success. Yet we fail to realise that the pursuit of these yardsticks is at best meaningless, and that our true happiness can only be found if we follow His will.
People in Church seem to react positively to the message, which was heartening.
Met a single mother in Church yesterday while preparing to go home. She was heavily pregnant and had financial difficulties. Yet she seemed to be holding up well and was determined to send her child to Sunday School. Perhaps she knew what was most important.
Have many errands to run before flying off on Friday. I will probably try to take leave before that. Was reminded at dinner how full my life has been, with gym, volunteer work and my job. I should be grateful and appreciative. But I guess I havent been able to because I have always hungered for more and was not able to feel contented. I am glad for the reminder of how blessed I have been. A reminder of the importance of counting our blessings.
