Reflection

Its been a while since I last blogged. Many things have taken place over the past few days. On Wednesday, I got out of the office early to attend a dinner hosted by the Singapore International Law Society at the Supreme Court. The dinner took place at the space-ship like Gallery of the Court, which offered a paranomic view of the river. The guest of honour provided an enligthening overview of international community in international law.
Got sent this interesting book on Political Islam from the library yesterday. It gave a good overview of the intrinsic tensions between Shia and Sunni. I guess the weekend will be spent at the gym working out and devouring the book.
Someone asked me how it is possible for me to stay calm in spite of the storms and politicking that happens in the industry. I guess it is something that is built up. After a while, one realises in the ugliness and futility of what society expects you to be or to do and that it is better to get out of our comfort zones to follow and fulfill our dreams and destiny. Yes, we may be constrained by our circumstances. Yes, we may have people who put us down, but I guess ultimately, we have to know where we want to go and take each step towards that goal. As for the politicking and backstabbing, I have been fortunate to have avoided it. However, I havent reached the zen like state yet. I am still struggling with various emotions and it does affect what I do. I guess I have to always remember to be still.
I hope eventually to go into development or NGO work as it would probably give me the opportunity to work on the ground and make a difference in the lives of those I assist. Perhaps its an elusive dream, but I guess the experiences I have gathered so far have been useful towards reaching that goal and I struggle constantly to keep that dream alive.
