Weekend entry

After German class, I went to join F, L and their friends at the Botanical Gardens to listen to the Singapore Lyric Opera perform. The pieces performed included Nessun Dorma and the Flower Duet, which I enjoyed very much. There was a festive atmosphere in the air as children and dogs took the opportunity of the wide open space to run around and play ball while the adults relaxed on their mats, foldable chairs and soaked in the music.
It was nice to sit around on the cool grass surrounded by lush greenery for once, a welcome respite from the urban concrete jungle which we live in. Conversation was good too as we caught up with each other's lives.
I have been going to the gym for quite a bit and am starting to enjoy it. Went for a Body Combat class last night after work which was quite enjoyable. There arent many people there so one is able to use the equipment and enjoy a semblance of quiet and privacy, which is very important for me. The service staff are quite friendly as well.
Was quite surprised to learn from a friend last night over dessert that one of our mutual friends had been accepted into the seminary. I am happy for him and know that he will make a good priest. It is not an easy path as he will have to give up his material comforts and leave his family to serve. Not many people have the courage or wisdom to step out of thier comfort zone to fulfill their destiny and that is a tragedy. Perhaps any dreams that we have are smothered as we begin work and get absorbed into the system. It is always important to be in the world but not part of it. To always remember that there is something better beyond the immediate comfort zone and that we are all called to fulfill our destiny and understand who we really are.
