Saturday:
German class was quite interesting as we had a lively discussion about what we expected the future would be like. Most of my classmates were pessimistic that the future could be better as prices continued to rise. Some decried globalisation as a phenomena which made people worse off.Others however begged to differ as other factors could have attributed to the current state of affairs and not globalisation. Will the future be bleaker than it currently is? It does seem that way. But in the midst of all the uncertainty, we can only cling on to hope because most times, its the only thing left that would keep us going.
Following class, went to Wildoats for drinks with some friends. The conversation was good and I got to know more about them. Interestingly, it was also the official opening of the art gallery adjacent to the bar and the proprietors had hired flamethrowers for the occasion. Swinging their balls of fire to the beat of funky music, it was a wonderful sight to see the flames darting and dancing in the darkness. We had a scare though when one of the throwers lost his grip and sent a ball of fire into the air.
Sunday:
Catechism class today was uneventful. Played the hymn "Abide with me" to the class which seemed to have a soothing effect. Explained the lyrics of the hymn and how it tied in with the importance of prayer. In praying, we cling on to hope and trust that God will see us through. As Christians, we have to believe that God is our hope and praying is a means of establishing our relationship with him, trusting and acknowledging that we are dependent on Him. I am thankful that this understanding seemed to sink into their minds.
In two weeks, we are planning to show the film Evan Almighty as part of class and to discuss the lesson in relation to the film. I am looking forward to that.
This Saturday, there is a Peranakan party hosted by the Asian Civilisations Museum. Going with some friends. Am looking forward to that.
